Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd Progress Update - 13th June 2015

Now, this is just another progress update for the 1 guy (or none should I say) who reads them. Also, if you didn't notice, I released chapter 1 as a demo of sorts the other day so check it out if you're interested. That said, progress is going well like usual and I have nearly completed translating chapter 3. That is good because as of this moment I am now around 2/3 way through (the other chapters are way shorter) translating the game as a whole. Yay! Now, I have got some bad news. I wanted to put that demo out so I could cross it off my bucket list, and so I could also reach a stopping point of sorts. Don't cry now, I'm not calling it quits. I'm just going to be taking a little break from GOS2 for a short while to work on a few other things. Mostly Terra Formars and Higurashi related. That said, GOS2 thus far has been pretty decent. It has its moments but it also has its downfalls. The voice acting sounds tiresome, and the amount of strolling around and text you encounter becomes tedious from time to time, or regularly should I say. Either or, don't expect much from GOS2. Its nothing special, save for a few funny jokes and moments here and there, joke endings, yada yada yada, so you aren't missing much if you ignore it when I end up finish translating.
Anyway, there are only two more things I want to mention below before ending this post. First, Denzel Washington actually makes a bizarre cameo in this game. I mean, why? Granted, it did get a chuckle out of me but he just appears and is never seen again. He doesn't even meet the cast, but that would be funny and we can't have that. Grr. Wasted opportunity. Second, I want to talk about the part in GOS2 where Asuka calls Kaworu a "tanbi-man", where I just adapted it as faggot. Now, what the first part (tanbi) literally translates to is "aesthetic", but it is more of a term used for yaoi and the like. Taking that into account, I could have just had left it as tanbi-man or took a more passive approach and adapted it as gayboy instead of faggot, but I didn't feel right with either so the latter was my first and only choice. What can I say, I'm a big troll. Anyhow, I also translated one of Toji's chikuso's as fucker, which is directed at Shinji during that scene. All said and done, I'll continue progress on GOS2 at a later date. I don't know when, but it shouldn't be far off from now. See ya!

P.S. - It also seems that nobody bothered to comment on the Evageeks topic that I posted months back. I'm kinda disappointed.

  1. Asuka calling Kaworu "faggot" suits her character anyway. I'm still looking forward to this, I know you said that this game isn't as special as people thought but I think it is to expect from dating sims from back then. Despite that, I'm kind of a sucker for romantic aspects in the evangelion series. Wish developers made more games like these but I guess quality wise would not be great, I'm a fan of those romantic comedy spin off of the series itself when I first watched the "alternate universe" segment in Episode 26.

Anyway, I would expect that the interest for this game was huge back then. Thank goodness you're still going to see it through, can't wait

  2. @Cashley Chen I have a huge intrest in this game even now :D

As for other people intrested in your translations - don't worry! Just because they don't speak out doesn't mean they don't exist!

  3. I also wonder what Pearse thinks about the Neon Genesis Evangelion 2 game (or the PSP version)? The one with a bunch of scenarios

    1. It seems rather unique in that it has a ton of different endings and characters to play as. I'm very curious about it as there could be a wealth of untapped information throughout the game itself.

  4. Just wanted to shout out that I'm glad someone is doing this game's translation! I downloaded your first one and it was excellent. I actually had an interest in this game about 7-8 years ago when I first heard of it but sadly there wasn't much content online or on Youtube to know enough of it (I've been more busy since then). You have yourself a follower. I look forward to your updates in the future!

    1. Oh and also, I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of posts on your Evageek thread, although I would've replied to it but unfortunately I don't possess an account nor do I feel committed enough to joining and being active in the community. The alternate universe Evangelion isn't as popular as the mainstream with the audience, and often pretty obscure to the rest of them. Look at SIRP and how that discussion has quickly turned out. We are a very niche audience. Then again, you can't really compare the mindfuckery of the original series haha.
