Saikano: Saishuu Heiki Kanojo English Translation Project (PS2)

Now, this is just something I’ve been having on the side until I finished translating just the prologue of the game, which wasn’t that long ago. However, I don’t want to TL any further since I may or may not even get help to hack the game and rip the graphics nor be able to implement a translation of what I’ve done or if I translate any further. And now we come to the reason for this post. I just want to put out there that if somebody has the know-how of hacking PS2 games and making changes to their respective font files, then please contact me as soon as possible so that progress can be made. I really want to translate this PS2 game, but I don’t have the technical know-how nor the contacts to make it happen. However, translating is my game and that’s what I do, so obviously somebody else has to help out and do the rest.
Chise, what did they do to you?
Anyway, here’s a little about the game from what I’ve seen. It’s a visual novel, obviously, has path routes, granted, has dialogue choices, granted again, multiple endings, granted again again, and mini game dialogue choices and various other minigames? Okay, that one I didn’t expect. Now, at certain points in the game you have the ability to drag your cursor and pick something that you can see on screen, either that be planes in the sky or Chise’s face or clothing and the like. However, you only get one choice most of the time so choose wisely as it does affect the following scene, a few lines of dialogue, or your relationship meter with Chise. Kinda odd since I’ve never seen that in a VN before. Interesting. (FYI, talking about the cursor minigame.)
Riveting, isn't it?
Furthermore, the cursor pick mini game isn’t the only one I’ve seen as there are also a few others. First up is some weird minigame where dialogue flows around the screen and you have to hit a key to select one of them, I think. Anyway, it affects the following scene since what you choose is what you say, again I think. I haven’t bothered TL’ing the minigame parts or their tutorials, was lazy. Moving on. Second is some character card picker minigame which first appeared at the end of the game's first chapter, and from what I can tell, whoever you choose gives you either a bonus or minus in your relationship with Chise. The characters are Chise, Akemi, Atsushi, Fuyumi, and Tetsu, and their respective increase or decrease are as follows:
  • Chise + 1
  • Akemi + 0
  • Atsushi + 1
  • Fuyumi - 2
  • Tetsu + 2
Moving on. What I like about this game is that it actually gives you the chance to change events in the story. You can stop the world from ending, save Akemi from dying, end up with her or Fuyumi, and that’s actually a great appeal seeing how everything ends in the anime. Hubba hubba. Also, I don’t know if this always happens or not depending on your choices, but it seems that Take doesn’t die during the bombing of Sapporo, and instead lives. Interesting. I wonder what else this game has in store. Anyhow, the music is actually pretty good and I am liking it. And while the graphics may not be the best thing in the world, it manages to maintain the artstyle of the anime which is a major bonus that I really appreciate.
What? Don't judge me.
However, it does tend to borrow a lot from the anime itself which in itself is a little worrying. Event pictures and even backgrounds seem to have been lifted for use with the game, and a ton of anime clips, too. But! I think the reason they did that was to first be cheap, and second, to maintain the artstyle of the anime. And guess what, it worked! Unsure, but I wonder if any other anime VN’s did this. Kinda unique if you ask me. Also, 15 minutes of new animation was drawn for the game and that I was able to rip with help from the God of War himself, Kratos. You can find the video on Youtube, but sadly, the quality isn’t that very good since YT likes to crush vids into ugly messes. Still, I have the original video file and I always will. Hee hee. Lastly, as with many VN’s voice acting, it tends to be rather flat and uninteresting at times. However, it’s not the worst I’ve ever heard so it’s mediocre at best.
And now we’ve finally come to the end of this post. Aww, too bad. I was getting kinda excited. Still, I hope you enjoyed reading as this game is rather obscure. It was only uploaded on JP game sites in 2012 which is the time that I downloaded it, but it died not long after and the only reliable, working link that I know of is the one that I myself uploaded, and that’s worrying. Furthermore, there’s isn’t exactly much information about the game itself on the net, so if anyone ever comes to looking for info, I guess right here would be their first stop. Anyway, if anybody knows of PS2 hacking groups or anyone who has the skills to help me out, then please fire them my way or at least let me know. Thank you for reading, and see you next time.

P.S. - I’ve only played as far as the start of the second chapter, so I’m unsure what the rest of the game holds in content. But if you’re interested in seeing for yourself, then I recommend you to download the game off my blog and try it out. Have fun!

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri: Kakera Asobi Graphics Rip

Like how I sorted out and organised the Sui rip, I actually did the same for Matsuri all the way back during late of last year. But, I kinda forgot about it and only remembered recently. That said, while you could say that Sui is superior in every single way to Matsuri, I still think that it's worthwhile to keep a backup of its assets since there were changes made to Sui's so you can have those which you prefer (Sui or Matsuri) or maybe even if you'd like to compare the differences. Either or, enjoy the rip. It has been on the net for a long time but at least now it's sorted. Bye!

Saikano: Saishuu Heiki Kanojo (PS2 Video Game)

I originally got interested in this game after watching the anime way back in 2012 (I think. My memory is kinda fuzzy) and wanted to check it out. So I then hit the net and found a recently uploaded download on one of those Japanese games blog and got it. However, I quickly forgot about it since that was before I got into translating and moved on. Though when I did in 2014, I was contacted by Kratos (or I contacted him, can't remember) sometime early that year on romhacking, but since I was busy I put it off. However, I eventually got around to it again midway into this year, asked him about it and realised that it was NOT on the net anymore, and that I was probably the only guy who had the game. All the links were dead and so was any torrent of it that EVER existed. But Kratos managed to find it off a friends personal storage or something like that, and began seeding it to me since the one I had, had a different MD5 checksum than this, and because of that the file extract script he made would not work with it. Then skip months later when it was eventually finished (Summer and stuff), I got what I could from the game (all the exclusive animation and such) and I uploaded it. Anyway, enough of my little story. This is an adventure game/visual novel in-which you control Shuji through the story of the anime (depending on your choices) and the choices you make affect Chise's stability/love meter and thus you proceed down the different available paths and routes. You can also end up with Chise, Akemi, or Fuyumi depending on what you do, so there is various endings for you to unlock. The download is below. I split it into 8 parts since my upload speed is shit, but it is good enough so check out the game if you're interested. Bye!

Saikano: Saishuu Heiki Kanojo - Two Music Tracks from the PS2 Game

There were also two song tracks on the games disc that were accessible (the games soundtrack is in a compressed format, sadly) so I decided to upload them, too. The first (the embedded video) is the long play version of the anime's ending theme Sayonara by Yuria Yato which is amazing and the other is an unknown song that I haven't heard before. It could be new or exclusive to the game, but if it isn't and somebody recognises it, then please let me know. That said, they were just music tracks without video so I had to slap some artwork to display for the video’s runtime. I was thinking of using the anime’s DVD cover but that didn't look too good so I went with Chise’s butt. And that’s artwork from the Love Song 2002 artbook, FYI. You can find it on e-hentai or various other places if you're interested or like the artwork. Either or, enjoy the nice music. See ya!

Saikano: Saishuu Heiki Kanojo - All PS2 Exclusive Anime Cutscenes

All PS2 exclusive anime cutscenes from the Saikano PS2 video game ripped from its disc directly. I included the intro and placed it first since there's also new animation in that, and ended it with the happy wedding ending to make things that more sweet knowing the canon ending. Just thinking about it still brings a tear to my eye. To ho ho. Anyway, I talked a bit with the God of War himself Kratos in this thread, and he very kindly wrote a script to extract the games files not long ago, so thank him for allowing me to gain access to these videos in the first place. Also, if you didn't know, AKEMI CAN LIVE in the game if certain conditions are fulfilled, so somewhere in the video you'll see her simply crawl out from under a wardrobe of sorts. Yippee! It was really sad when she died so having an option to save her in the game really means a lot to me. Just wish the same could be said for Rei in ARP but we got fucked there, it seems. I blame Anno. Anyway, you can also hook up with Fuyumi, too, so that's a nice bonus. All said and done, if you've ever watched this anime which I believe to be THE GREATEST ANIME OF ALL TIME, then this video is a MUST WATCH. Check it out.

P.S. - I also uploaded the intro of the game separately, FYI, so check that out, too, if you're interested.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri Sprites 640x480

I planned to make my own fan-game of Higurashi late last year, but I am always busy so I only got around to writing the first day. I had to put the Matsui sprites onto a 640x480 background and correct their height for the program I was using, but as you read above, I never finished (or started should I say) writing so I think I'll just upload the files I planned to use. Maybe someone will find them of use. Though I have had these since December last year, but I lost track of things and only remembered about them recently. Anyhow, enjoy, I guess.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ayanami Raising Project with Asuka Artbook (Better Resolution)

I actually forgot to upload this last year when I found it, though it's here now. Anyhow, I found a better scanned version of the ARP PS2 artbook in the torrents section of rei-ayanami.net sometime last year. I stumbled upon it through google searches by accident, so I wasn't on that site for the porn, FYI. Or was I? Anyhow, this one's in much better resolution than that ugly low res scan that was on the net before, though the only bad thing is that the entire strategy guide section wasn't scanned, but not much people would be interested in that part so it doesn't really matter. Though I wish it was because I'd actually be able to translate that to help myself and players know the required stats for specific events and scenes since the current scans of that section are too ugly to recognize the characters correctly. Meh. That said, I'd advise people to download this version over the other. It's got all the event pics, endings and all that jazz, so check it out if you're interested.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ayanami Raising Project - Comparison of Platform Versions

Hmm, my bad for not doing this when I should have. That said, here's a little version comparison of Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ayanami Raising Project. Now, where should I start. I'll begin with gameplay to build up some text before I post pics. Also, take note when I use ARP (Ayanami Raising Project - PC & Dreamcast) and ASP (Asuka supplement Project - PS2 & NDS), otherwise you might get confused.

Gameplay
For the most part, gameplay remains the same, but there are some differences. The gameplay in the original PC release was broken, buggy and very unbalanced (especially Rei's love meter) for the most part, so much that Rei sees Shinji when she dies (I've mentioned this before if anyone remembers) even though you as 2nd Lieutenant has a higher love meter (or whatever the fuck you want to call it) than him. I mean, if something like that which is a crucial part in the game is broken, then get out. Leave. And come back when you fucking fix things. No, let me say this, they couldn't be that dumb, that was probably intentional knowing how Anno loves to torture Reifags and see them suffer. 3.33 anyone? Yeah, that's what's really going on here. I knew it all fucking along. Anyhow, they did put out a patch, which didn't really fix anything because I still got that same fucking bug. I take it back, they are that dumb.
Two baby faced motherfuckers
Also, while I'm on gameplay. It was greatly fixed and actually balanced with the Asuka Supplement Project ports. In the original, it was too easy to build stats. You were given too big a stat boost with the training options. You could send Rei to NERV any or every day of the week if you wanted to, sky rocking her respective stats into cloud 9, winning Angel encounters within a few attacks. No joke, that's how unbalanced it is. But in ASP, they refined it and made gameplay very balanced. And there, NERV is only available on weekends as opposed to the entire week which makes things that much better. So, you can't spam NERV training or ridiculously boost stats, either. Also, I would like to mention that all the Eva pilots have different stats (health, attack, defence) in the Angel battles in the original PC release, but in ASP they all have the same, and the respective stats are only used for dodging and accuracy if my memory serves me correctly. Anyhow, I didn't like that, it was an unnecessary edit. But they probably did so in an attempt to make the fights longer, I guess. Anyway, the teaching Rei words training option works differently in ARP than it does in ASP. In the former, you have to enter in the words (lewd ones) you want to teach her using your keyboard yourself, while in the latter, it simplifies things by removing that pesky chore and rather auto chooses the words from a very long list instead, which was a drag to translate by the way.
Now, lastly for gameplay. The Angel missions in the original PC version and the respective missions dialogue was very rushed. They didn't speak all the dialogue from the show during the moments, and it went over very quickly. However, this was all fixed in ASP, where the dialogue was greatly corrected and the missions were extended to be that much longer. Also, they added more training options and stats in ASP, which were essentially the ARP ones split into two for the most part. There's no point in listing them all, so here's an example or two:
  • Physical Strength
    • Strength
    • Fitness
Furthermore, most stats have a respective training to go with it in both ARP & ASP. For example, Strength and Fitness have Strength training and Fitness training, although some aren't as obviously named as those two.

Graphics
Now, onto graphics. You know, there was actually a little censoring with the ports. Not much, but they added some glare and such to cover up GNR's nipples, and more of it when Rei's bikini falls off after she is hit by a wave at the beach, with it also being redrawn and with less censoring (they moved her hands to cover up her nipples instead of glare) may I add.
Now, other than censoring, all the new CG's for the new events (some existing one's redrawn, too), more/changed character textbox portraits and endings that they added had a different artist than the original PC release, which sometimes clashes with the original PC art as only some of it was redrawn. Also, they redrew Rei's stances to boot, too. And well, they do look better, but I still kinda like the PC one's. They have some charm to them.
Lastly, the menu in-which you choose where to go in Tokyo 3 and the menu's and such are different in every version. I kinda liked that but the 3D ones do look kinda goofy, but how can you resist the Dreamcast version when it has a cute looking... nude Rei floating about the screen? Umm, was that part of Anno's master plan as well? Nah, just kidding.
Top left = PC - Top Right = Dreamcast
Bottom left = PS2 - Bottom Right = NDS
Features
Well, there's not much to say about features. The only differences I can say is that Asuka was added as well as a bunch of new events and endings for Rei in ASP. A quiz mode in the NDS version, which is the only one to have it. You can view both event and ending CG's in the ports as you could only view endings in the original PC release. A new Dejiko (Nyo) shop and new items/clothing to buy in ASP, which presumably has something to do with unlocking the NDS exclusive Dejiko ending for both Rei and Asuka. A Gurren Lagann costume for both Asuka (Yuko) and Rei (Nia) solely in the NDS version. And lastly, 2nd Lieutenants voice was removed in ASP, but was kept in the Dreamcast version since that's more or less a direct port of the PC version.
I haven't touched the NDS version in a while, so I just screencapped this pic off the games official site since these costumes cost quite a bit, and since you need to get them to accept wearing it, also.
Also, you may also note that the shops in this game like Animate and the like are real life stores in Japan. A nice little features if you ask me. Anyway, that's really it for my comparison. I hope/think I covered all the differences or at least most of them, and I hope you enjoyed it, too. So, unless you've got any questions or want to leave a comment. Until next time! See ya!

Note
Did anyone notice my Zelda reference in the NDS translation? I thought someone would have mentioned it by now. For those who are curious, it is at the point where you have to choose which entry plug Rei is in, in the lake and if you choose the one Asuka is in, she shouts at you since she's naked.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ayanami Raising Project Graphic Rips

I ripped the PC versions graphics over 2 months ago and it's been sitting on my computer ever since, but I finally got around to uploading it. I'm lazy that way, anyhow below is the PC one I did and the PS2 rip by Ikari Shinji which I got from here. They were in a horrendous Picasa Web Album with a terrible viewer, god I hate that. Anyhow it's much easier and faster to simply have them in a folder, like how it is in my download. I also included the Russian title cards from their PC translation just because, thought someone might want them. The PC files are in their original bmp format so I didn't recompress anything, just encase anyone was wondering. Feel free to jerk off or whatever it is Evangelion fans do, but I will say it's worthy to note that the PC images have it down to Rei's feet, even though ingame cuts off around the waist, although your only gonna be interested there if you have a foot fetish. I'm just saying, Quentin Tarantino might wanna download these. Anyway, the NDS and Dreamcast versions haven't got a rip but I don't think they're necessary. Enough of my ramblings, the links are below so enjoy and happy fapping.
