Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd TL Notes

My bad. I actually added to this in the progress of translating GOS2 but forgot to upload it when I finished the TL. Anyway, it's here now. That said, it's just a collection of terms used in the game and relevant links for those who may not understand what they are or are just plain interested. You'll find the link to the document below. Enjoy!

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd Kaworu-kun Ending Patch

Since the developers themselves never bothered to actually include a Kaworu ending, I decided to add one in myself. It's an edited version of another scene with dialogue also taken from other parts of the game, so I hope the end result is good enough for fans. Enjoy. Or you can just alternately just watch the Youtube video of it that I uploaded. Either or, just make sure that you already have the English translation applied before you dump the files into the games directory since this is a patch. See ya!

P.S. - Yes, I did pick the dialogue like that on purpose, FYI. laughingelfman.jpg

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd English Translation 1.0

Yippee. The day has finally come and man oh man am I glad. It took quite some months and the greater part of my year to finish, but it was totally worth it and I am happy with the end result. And while I know that the translation may not be the greatest and downright atrocious at times, it’s certainly mediocre at worst (I hope) so you shouldn't be too cautious before trying it out. That said, I won't bother you with my ramblings for much longer so before I get all teary-eyed, I just want to mention that I didn't bother to translate the games ending credits. Yeah, I know, though everything else is so don't raise any pitchforks just yet. Anyhow, I really like how the chapter title cards turned out. I based them on as you probably guessed the episode title cards from the show, and they look great in-game, too. However, the original title cards were very lacklustre and lacked zest, so I wanted to improve the presentation of the game by changing them to how the show’s was. See below for comparison.
Now, I've said all that I wanted to say so let's get down to business. To apply the translation patch, there's just a few things you need to do. I'll explain why first, though. Since the game has graphics that needed to be changed/translated, I had to rebuild the games event file which contained them and then make a patch from it so I wouldn't have to upload a 500mb file with the translation. Though there's no need to do the same for the other games file (imgfrm.lb5) since it's of a small size. Anyhow, onto the instructions:

1. Dump all the files into the game directory and overwrite.
2. Use the included xdeltaUI program to apply the graphics patch like so:
  • Launch program
  • Select patch file (event.xdelta)
  • Select file to be patched (event.lb5 in game directory)
  • Select where to output the file and make sure to name it "event.lb5"
  • Select the patched file and replace the original games with it in the games directory
3. Play the game.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd Progress Update - 3rd August 2015

Actually forgot to write a progress report a few weeks ago, but I guess this final one with do before the translation is fully released sometime this week. That said, I have now translated 99.9% of the game, and all that's left to do is some fixing up and the chapter title cards that appear throughout the game which shouldn't take long. All said and done, I would just like to mention that the Japanese script had a ton of errors all the way through from missing question marks, missing full stops and brackets, not taking new dialogue screens for when different characters talk, and even naming Maya as Ibuki during a section of the game even though the former is what is used at every other point. Pretty odd, huh? You’d think they would have at least checked over their game before release, but lazy devs will be lazy devs, am I right? Jokes aside, I also recorded all the games joke endings and uploaded them to YouTube, so check them out if you're interested. Furthermore, I’ll be doing the same for the games endings and for the rest of my play through, FYI. And lastly, I was going to do a beta test of sorts before releasing/finalising the translation to get feedback and to spot check for mistakes and errors that I have may have overlooked after my own, but that would be too much hassle and I doubt people would take it seriously and report errors so I'm not gonna bother. Anyhow, that’s really everything that I wanted to say. Bye!

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd (PC Download)

I finally got off my butt to upload the PC version to the net seeing how no one else has, and I doubt people want to get it through a shitty, low-seeder torrent on nyaa. Anyhow, the main reason I wanted to upload this is for ease of access for those who want to try out the Chapter 1 Demo that I put out recently, and so people can have the game ready for when I finish translating the darn game, also. Either or, the links are reliable so go ahead and download it if you're interested.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd Progress Update - 13th June 2015

Now, this is just another progress update for the 1 guy (or none should I say) who reads them. Also, if you didn't notice, I released chapter 1 as a demo of sorts the other day so check it out if you're interested. That said, progress is going well like usual and I have nearly completed translating chapter 3. That is good because as of this moment I am now around 2/3 way through (the other chapters are way shorter) translating the game as a whole. Yay! Now, I have got some bad news. I wanted to put that demo out so I could cross it off my bucket list, and so I could also reach a stopping point of sorts. Don't cry now, I'm not calling it quits. I'm just going to be taking a little break from GOS2 for a short while to work on a few other things. Mostly Terra Formars and Higurashi related. That said, GOS2 thus far has been pretty decent. It has its moments but it also has its downfalls. The voice acting sounds tiresome, and the amount of strolling around and text you encounter becomes tedious from time to time, or regularly should I say. Either or, don't expect much from GOS2. Its nothing special, save for a few funny jokes and moments here and there, joke endings, yada yada yada, so you aren't missing much if you ignore it when I end up finish translating.
Anyway, there are only two more things I want to mention below before ending this post. First, Denzel Washington actually makes a bizarre cameo in this game. I mean, why? Granted, it did get a chuckle out of me but he just appears and is never seen again. He doesn't even meet the cast, but that would be funny and we can't have that. Grr. Wasted opportunity. Second, I want to talk about the part in GOS2 where Asuka calls Kaworu a "tanbi-man", where I just adapted it as faggot. Now, what the first part (tanbi) literally translates to is "aesthetic", but it is more of a term used for yaoi and the like. Taking that into account, I could have just had left it as tanbi-man or took a more passive approach and adapted it as gayboy instead of faggot, but I didn't feel right with either so the latter was my first and only choice. What can I say, I'm a big troll. Anyhow, I also translated one of Toji's chikuso's as fucker, which is directed at Shinji during that scene. All said and done, I'll continue progress on GOS2 at a later date. I don't know when, but it shouldn't be far off from now. See ya!

P.S. - It also seems that nobody bothered to comment on the Evageeks topic that I posted months back. I'm kinda disappointed.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd English Translation Chapter 1 Demo

Here is that demo I mentioned that I would release some time ago. It's just the first chapter of the game so it'll serve as a taster of sorts for the game and until the full translation is released. You only need to drop the files in the games directory, and overwrite the files to apply the patch. There's also a readme in the archive, so please read that and report any typo's or errors that you encounter in your playthrough of Chapter 1 to me. This is crucial, as it will help to correct mistakes that I may have overlooked during my own testing and playthroughs. Now, I hope you enjoy playing the game. Until next time.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd Progress Update - 24th May 2015

I've been kinda busy and not really interested in doing a progress update for GOS2, hence why this one took a while. It's not that my interest of progress with translation has waned or anything, just that I'm lazy for lack of a better term. Anyhow, progress has been going really well. So much that I'm already over the halfway mark in terms of text file size to go, and I'm only at the brim of finishing chapter 2. Now, I won't dribble like I did with my progress updates with ARP with Britney Spears references and the like, so I'll try and cut to the chase. I've done a lot so fuck off. Oh, sorry. That said, I really do like the small encounters with the characters in the game. Meeting Maya, Aoba, Fuyutsuki, Hyuga and the like in and around New Kichijoji. Maya teases Shinji about a date, Aoba fails to buy a replica Dizzy Gillespie trumpet, Fuyutsuki becomes obsessed with shogi, and Hyuga builds a full tower style PC on a coffee table in a cafe. The events just aren't that, but the rest is for you to see for yourself. When I finish the translation that is. Though, I'll be putting out the entirety of chapter 1 as a demo of sorts for testing purposes, and to serve as a taster of what the full game will offer. I don't know when since there are a few things here and there I want to fix up first, but it'll be sooner or later so keep a lookout for it.
GOS2 is weird
That said, I may also need beta-testers in the future to further spot check, find typo's, playtest, yada yada yada, so I'll just do a very open private beta of 10-30+ people before finalising the translation whenever it enters the final stage. Anyhow, I also recorded about an hour more of gameplay so I'll link the playlist here for those interested. The new videos are parts 3-6, FYI. Now, I don't really have anything else to say, so God speed, until text time and baby got back.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd Progress Update - 30th April 2015

Things have been going pretty good. I've done up until the part where you take a picture of Asuka, Rei, Kaworu and also the character routes before it, too. Also, if you didn't notice, I also uploaded two videos of gameplay not long ago so check those out if you're interested. I'll drop links at the bottom of this post.

Anyway, what is interesting is that your route choices have a small after effect later in the game, giving you some variation other than the direct route scenes and such if you replay the game. However, I guess that is kinda granted for a game like this but it's still nice to see. Also, I'll give you an example. After you arrive at AEL, change into your plug suit and meet the other characters like Asuka and Kaworu, who you meet and what is said changes depending on whom you chose to go with. Asuka complains you made her go alone, Kaworu acts gay, and Rei annoys Asuka.
Now, onto the meat. The God of the New World, our lord and savior Toku-san. Jokes aside. This guy is kinda creepy. At first, he appears to Shinji on his way to school, and when you cross over to the convenience store, he follows you. Then, when you cross back over the pedestrian bridge, he follows you again and asks, "do you like animals?". Creepy. What's next, "have you ever seen a grown man naked?". Furthermore, he appears again during break/lunch time at school (and later in the game as well) and comments on the many "beautiful, young ladies". Did I mention he's old? Like oji-san old. Also, for those who don't know who this beast is, he's the owner of the Big Apple Diner (which appears in GOS2, too) from GOS1.
That said, I'd just like to comment on the quality of the voice acting. It is overall a good effort, but it does get a little stale at times with their voices sounding very tiresome. Mainly the main cast, though. The side characters and such like Toku-san are always enjoyable to hear. Also, get a load of Misato at 1:29 in the second video. That got a chuckle out of me. Furthermore, the graphics in the game are seriously lacking and downright terrible at times. I expected better. Not Ryukishi 07 photoshop filtered backgrounds half the time. Anyway, I just wanted to mention those few things, but if you've got any questions, then fire away. Otherwise, until next time.

P.S.
If anyone wants me to mention or talk about anything specific next time or anytime for that matter, then just ask.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd Progress Update - 20th April 2015

It hasn't been that long since I started this translation, but i just wanted to do a little progress update for those who are interested. That said, things have been going pretty good, and I've done up until the part you choose who to go with to the Artificial Evolution Laboratory, and the free roam section for the Kaworu choice, and all of his free roam in the Artificial Evolution Laboratory, too, and I've just started on Rei’s. Granted though, that not all the dialogue in this game is voiced, or at least for the non-event scenes for Shinji, like the free roam look, talk and such text, and there is quite a bit of that since there are many locations and places to visit, and they all have their own look and talk text, with more of it when you revisit later after story scenes. I like that, since it becomes rewarding to be thorough in the free roam sections of the game. However, all characters except Shinji during those type of events and such are voiced, so that's good. Also, it is annoying that I have to manually line break (so this doesn't happen) every line of text for this game since it doesn't do it on its own, because Japanese doesn't need too. So, I have to count the number of letters and line break when necessary for every line of text, which does become time consuming in its own right.
Anyhow, the game so far has been entertaining, which is a good thing. Originally, I thought it would be bad, but that was just me being negative about everything as usual. But there is a lot of roaming about (which gets annoying) in this game, so its not that straight forward unless you know what you're doing or have a walkthrough handy. That said, I expect what it has to offer to be suffice. Also, Ritsuko is being quite a pedo in this one. That 'physical checkup' she gives you is kinda odd, seeing her various questions, her face and the fact that Shinji has his shirt off the entire time. Lewd. I just hope this doesn't give people more doujinshi ideas, or do I? Furthermore, notice the Prince of Tennis reference. Nice, Gainax. That got a chuckle out of me. Anyhow, this was just a little update so I'll end things here, but I will be recording some videos sooner or later, so stay tuned for those and keep a lookout on my Youtube channel for when I do. See ya!

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd English Translation Announcement

Well, there you have it, Girlfriend of Steel 2 (or the Iron Maiden 2nd) is my next translation. Although I'm guessing you already knew that judging from my interests and such. However, it was either this or Ayanami Raising Project on the PC, which I do plan to translate eventually just so you know and I've actually already started on it, kinda. That said, I didn't expect Asuka's ass in my face (it totally jumped out of the screen) the moment I started the darn game, and I already knew there was fanservice in it but I never expected this. I mean, has Gainax really gone that low? Stupid question, I know. Enter Mari "the semen demon" joke here. Anyhow, her butt hits the screen right after it says "Gainax Presents", as if "Gainax presents Asuka's butt". That's probably the title of a doujinshi knowing Evangelion fans. Jab jab jab.
I can see the 4chan topic's right now.
"I want to sniff Asuka's butt"
"I want Asuka to sit on my face"
Anyway, sadly this Eva game isn't on the serious side, but more of a slapstick comedy, for some reason. However, hopefully it's funny and not stilted as I really wouldn't want to translate something that irritates me. That said, it's based in the alternate world seen in the final episode of the show, and is a dating sim/visual novel style game with only two endings, although there are a few silly game over ones like Robocop Shinji. That said, the two main endings are one Rei and the other Asuka, with no variation may I add. Anyhow, that's all I've got to say so I'll just end things here. And I hope people are interested in a translation of this game. I mean, who wouldn't? It's Evangelion, after all. Also, I recorded a video for some testing purposes and so you guys can see something ingame. Enjoy!

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel 2nd Graphics Rip (PC)

Well, even though there is already a graphics rip for GOS2 (or the Iron Maiden 2nd), I decided to make a rip myself. However, this is a raw rip so some (or a lot) of the event pics are separated apart since they are not a single file. Now, when I did so, I also noticed that this Evangelion game "borrows" some assets from Ayanami Raising Project (unsure if they're in GOS1, never played it) in the form of character portraits and some backgrounds. Also, the art is kinda rough, isn't it? I mean, it's not very good and the lines are all edgy. Ayanami Raising Project has better (kinda), and that was years before this. Anyway, enough about that. You can find the download link below, and all the files are in their original format. Enjoy!

Note
If you just want to see the event pics fully and such (since some are split in the game), you might just want to check out Reichu's rip, instead.

Update - 28th October 2016
Link has been fixed. Enjoy. Thanks for spotting the dead link.
