Imperfect Girl (Manga Review)

Imperfect Girl was a pretty good manga. I read it all in one sitting as it was rather intriguing and kept me reading until the end which does come off as rather quick and abrupt, I'll say, but that's all intention because it was all so simple to begin with. The solution was to simply reach out and get help and the healing would begin, but the MC kept overthinking things, putting it off, thinking about himself, getting out of there and just not caring what happens to her after.
Anyway, you're probably wonder what the actual plot is. Now, on his way to school, a boy sees a few girls run over by truck-kun, but the girl who wasn't hit looks like she doesn't care as she first hits pause on her game and puts it away before running to them like it's all a facade. Yup, something's definitely up there. However, she notices that the MC saw her do that and after sneaking into his apartment and hiding under his desk the following day, she brings him back to her house at knife-point and locks him in the closet as her personal pet, and thus begins our descent into madness. Or rather, the MC overthinking everything like when he doesn't think about leaving the closet and when he steps into the living room when the answer is actually so simple. Well, he is a failed writer so thinking a lot does make sense in this regard, and the manga does well the explain why all these events happen. Thumbs up.
God, I wish that were me
First off, you'll wonder "why doesn't he just phone the police, this is stupid" like I have seen many people say about it, but the manga itself explains why he wouldn't. I mean, try explaining to the police that a yandere loli trailed you back to her house at knife-point and forced you to live in her closet. See what I mean? You'd be the one to get in trouble. However, that's literally what he should have done as it would have solved the mystery immediately and get the girl the help that she needed.
That must be one pretty fucking comfy closet
In short, she lives by insane rules that her parents drilled into her and like what a child does, they obey their parents especially when they beat you when you make mistakes. She lives by them and to her, they're a matter of life and death. That's why she does the things that she does and acts that way. It's not because she wants to be mean or weird, it's just that it's what her parents taught her to do. Our MC wanders about the house days into his captivity, discovers no food in the fridge (she ate everything including the frozen food and she ate them frozen), her notebook with her rules repeated over and over, heaps full of laundry, and her dead parents who strangled each other in their bedroom among other things. But this is all because she is a literal child. She doesn't know how to do such things herself and she doesn't understand what it is to die, and this is all done very realistically especially when you consider the difference of raising a child in Japan and how they develop. Don't judge it by Western standards as you'll only annoy yourself.
"Always feed your pets". She brings him her school lunch to make sure he is fed at her own expense. That part hurt, and so did the part where her school lunch money ran out for next month. Food in school should be a right for fuck sake.
The manga does very well to subvert and deconstruct (yes, that word) many things as well as your expectations. I went into it thinking it was some yandere thing, but I came out like "Whoa, bro, she's messed up in the head. Poor thing. Please be daijoubu". It gives off a certain thriller and horror vibe and the atmosphere is done very well, but when you realise the truth of the matter, things are not so sinister. It's a tale of a young girl who has been mentally and physically traumatised who desperately needs help and the only thing that somebody needed to do was take notice and get it for her which is what the MC does after discovering the truth.
Don't expect it to go the hentai route. Pure dread here.
Overall, Imperfect Girl was a rather interesting and entertaining read. You may feel disappointed at the abrupt ending and how things played out, but you have to think about the meaning of the story and not judge it based on what you want it to be. It ends so quickly after he calls the police because that's just how simple and quick it could have been handled. Art-wise, it has a really nice style to it which the manga really benefited from, but I really wonder what those HxH-tier floating fish were about. Probably just to be weird, but it also probably means something. Don't ask me because I have no clue.
And she ends up a normal, functioning
person in the end... OR DOES SHE!!!
Also, I think this would make a pretty good anime, but I'm unsure how they would execute it, or if people would enjoy it considering it isn't yandere loli as from first glance. Lastly, I actually bought all the volumes of this to use for scanlation before it was officially licensed, but I kept it in my backlog as I worked through other things. However, I'm glad it was officially licensed. It would have been literal gobshite in comparison to this official release. Also, now I don't have to debind them and can keep them as a little souvenir. Besides, I got all the volumes for like £6 off ebay including delivery from Japan so I'm a busy little bee about it. At any rate, I would recommend Imperfect Girl since it's rather distinct and an enjoyable read. I give a 7.5/10. Check it out.

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Complete Volume [English] [Manga]

And thus the story has come to an end. Now, I was aware that another scanlation group had already finished this before I made a start on this (like the week before when I checked), but since I had bought the book like a year ago before they did and I found out, I wanted to do the Bus Stop manga. Well, that and to one-up my awful and embarrassing attempt at the VN many years ago. At any rate, I included the old scanlation release in the DL link for archiving purposes. And on that, I was going to do the manga back when I did the VN, but the original scanlation group wouldn't share their private raws with me when I asked and acted as if "if we're not doing it, then no one is" which did annoy me because all I wanted was to do the manga. *sad face* Anyway, I'd say the manga is good, but the VN will always be the best. And on the VN, do support MangaGamer when they eventually release it. Enjoy the volume. See ya!

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 10 - FINAL [English] [Manga]

Finally, the final chapter. The volume will be coming today as well, but I don't think I need to make any changes. At any rate, enjoy. Bai bai!

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 09 [English] [Manga]

Nothing personal, kid.
Man, there's a shit-ton of text in these chapters. They're mostly the same as the VN, but I was sad to see them change the line where not Takano mocks Mion and Rika about them going to live together forever by saying something about them going to the bathroom and getting washed together IIRC. A very minor thing.
Anyhow, I'm glad there's only one more chapter to go because it'll be another thing off my list, and then I'll be able to work my way through more stuff I've got lying around. One of which I started the other day, JUST!! Just what, you ask? Just love.

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 08 [English] [Manga]

I love bugs!
That was a heavy chapter. Phew. Glad I got that one done. Now there's only two chapters left, and that's the volume/story done. In other news, I started to take apart today that JUST yaoi manga about two guys and a girl in a love triangle or something like that which I'll start scanning soon. I need something to work on after this and Propeller Heaven while doing more Saga.
CUTE!
The latter which I'm gonna cry after finishing. You will, too, and you'll see why when I finish it. *sad face* Anyway, on Saga, expect more of that soon. Enjoy this chapter. See ya!

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 07 [English] [Manga]

Literally me
Hey-ey-ey... I'm so paid. This chapter was pretty great. I hope you've been enjoying this so far like me, but there's only 3 chapters left. Anyway, I don't have anything to say for the most part. Enjoy the chapter. See ya!

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 06 [English] [Manga]

I really feel bad for Arakawa. That shit just ain't funny. It fucked me up more than Come and See which I watched today I'm just going to randomly let you know. Great movie by the way. Check it out. Anyhow, this was a good chapter, but in the VN, it's the characters from the Bus Stop who take the place of the people in Ara's past, not the characters from the main Higurashi series IIRC. Just a little FYI for y'all.
me irl right now
And thus ends the legend of the field shit man. All in all, that's a pretty realistic take on what it's actually like. I know myself, and I have faith in Ryukishi07 as he himself worked for a child help agency place and had to deal with various things of which he also took inspiration from. Pretty interesting if you ask me. His humble beginnings before aspiring to become a doujin VN author. Anyway, enjoy the chapter. See ya!

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 05 [English] [Manga]

Man, leave the guy alone for fuck sake. In any case, another good chapter. The next one is about Arakawa's backstory and the field shit man thing. That was pretty memorable from the VN. Anyway, enjoy the chapter. See ya!

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 04 [English] [Manga]

Le scary face
And I have no privacy. Woo oooh! I think I'll say it again, I really hate doing redraw. It's time-consuming and annoying when there's no much on the image to use. Meh. In any case, I'm glad to be getting through this as the chapters have like 2-3 times the text volume of a chapter of something else I work on at around the same number of pages. The main reason for that is because they're literally dumping every line from the VN. Anyway, enough of my complaining. Enjoy the chapter. More Betterman coming next! See ya!

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 03 [English] [Manga]

Man, these chapters are tiresome. The script is huge, and redraw is a pain in the pass. Slowly but surely, I'll get there. Enjoy the chapter. See ya!

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 02 [English] [Manga]

There was a good bit of redraw in this one even with my use of stoke, but I'm not fond of doing redraw since it isn't exactly my strongest suit. In any case, another one bites the dust. However, it was nice to see that this chapter wasn't as direct from the VN as the first one was. There was a few lines moved about, and even a new line or two to improve the flow. Enjoy the chapter. See ya!

Hinamizawa Bus Stop - Chapter 01 [English] [Manga]

I took my sweet ass time this past week getting this first chapter done, but I was working on a video encoding project or two as well. In any case, I didn't exactly enjoy working on this. For one, there was a shit-ton of text and I mean, they literally took almost every single line out of the VN and put it in the manga which I say they shouldn't have done. At the very least, they could have slimmed the dialogue down and change a few things to fix better with the pacing of a manga. Meh. For two, I haven't been feeling very well as I have another swollen gland and also a tight jaw this time. Not that my health has ever been good, but O woe is me. Can't wait until I get my mouth and teeth fixed because it's fucking annoying and very painful at times. For three, it was embarrassing to go over the text as there was a fuck-ton of mistakes and errors I made when doing the VN, but that was many years ago and I've come a long way since then. Anyway, enjoy the chapter. I'll be starting on the Betterman manga next! See ya!
